About the event

Aquaculture, as an industry, has seen a rapid five-fold growth over the last 30 years and is predicted to grow by 64% over the coming 10 years.  The industry is currently valued at approximately 280 Billion Dollars Globally, with a value of over 1 Billion pounds in the United Kingdom, with where Scotland taking takes the main share of this value.

As the practice of Aquaculture grows, the importance of accurately monitoring the environment stocks are grown in increases becomes more important, where effective monitoring of water quality can improve stock yield and quality.

Differing practices require differing approaches for monitoring, from offshore open-pen nets to Recirculating aquaculture systems.  As margins with the industry are pressured, there is a clear emphasis within the industry for provision of water quality data to be provided at a competitive price.

The SWIG Water Quality Monitoring for Aquaculture workshop will present monitoring systems, review current legislation, and investigate new technologies developed for the sector.
